The Best Way to End the Year -- Literature Exhibitions!
Hello, Everyone!
The seventh graders have spent the last few weeks hastily preparing for the literature exhibition. They've spent time creating their exhibition in language arts class, during study halls, in readers workshop class, after school... it's been a bit all-consuming! The reason why it's been so consuming is because there's a lot to accomplish. Peruse this expansive list for further details:
1) Seventh graders have to read or reread two books of their choosing to highlight during the exhibition.
2) Seventh graders have to develop an outline comparing and contrasting specific things regarding their two books.
3) Seventh graders have to write a large essay comparing and contrasting at least three things from their books.
4) Seventh graders have to put together a 15-20 minute presentation.
5) Seventh graders have to create an artifact that represents their two books in some way.
So, yes! A lot of responsibility for these seventh graders. Although it's been a bit of a sprint, the literature exhibition represents the culmination of many new talents and strategies the seventh graders have learned over the last couple years. Having the literature exhibition at the end of the year has given the seventh graders the opportunity to continue building up language to reflect upon literature. They wrote weekly readers responses, learned about many different literary devices and terms, and made connections between books we read in class and their lives.
The added bonus is that during these hot June weeks, the literature exhibition has continued to keep the seventh graders occupied. With summer right around the corner, it is often difficult to stay focused, but having a 15-20 minute presentation in front of peers, family, and friends really keep things in perspective!
