Each year I ask students to think about their personal goals and what they most value in the Spanish classroom community.
Students created short dramas and collaborated to think through our goals.
They partnered to act out scenes that help us see what excellent and terrible collaboration might look like in the classroom.
This week, students were asked to reach concensus and select the most important characteristics in three areas of Spanish class: whole class work; partner work and independent work. Polling showed the following results.
In the classroom the top goal is to be “optimista” followed by “colaborativo.” With a partner, the top goal is to be “colaborativo” followed by “original.” There was a three way tie for independent work. Students selected “atrevido/intrépido,” “amable/afable” and “optimista” as the most important values.
What did you child select? Ask him or her to share their goals with you. We intentionally work to create an environment that honors and encourages every child. How can we achieve goals that serve the community and advance academic skills? Students invite each other into community and make personal commitments toward excellence and care.
