"FINALLY!" Memoir and Self-Portraits
"FINALLY!" A collective exclamation when sixth graders were told that memoir was starting.
Students have heard about the sixth grade memoirs from older students and older siblings, so they were eager to begin. A few students were prepared with ideas before the project began.
Each year, students in sixth grade write a memoir and create accompanying art work. Their memoirs include short stories and reflections about moments in their lives, while their art work is a self-portrait that represent who they are.
During literature, students have wrote and reflected on significant moments in their lives as they prepare to weave together a unique narrative. One student said, "I am excited to put thoughts onto paper for people to read."
