What Faith!

Eighth grade students lead Middle School Worship on January 22nd - February 15th.

Once, just before the people of Jerusalem would experience a most terrible and life-shattering event, the prophet, Jeremiah called out to the people. Just as they were about to experience the most discouraging times of their lives, he said to them:

Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord.

That one will be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream.

It shall not fear when heat comes; and its leaves shall stay green.

In the year of drought it is not anxious, and it does not cease to bear fruit.

Jeremiah 17:7,8

In this most difficult time, Jeremiah spoke God’s word and called people to trust God.
In this moment of struggle, he urged them to have faith in the God whom they could not see.
He wanted them not to fear - even when the heat came their way and even when life began to dry up.

I am sure that the people who heard Jeremiah had endless questions.
We ask some of the same essential questions now when we face our own struggles.

Essential Questions:

When struggles happen in our lives, what do we do? (Faith is something you do.)
When we speak or act in faith, how does God answer us? (What do we see? How do we see differently?)
In this situation, here, how can we understand what is faith really like?

Students in eighth grade are preparing in many ways to share Stories of Faith.

Each student attends a Nest or Lower School worship to observe how others share stories. They consider story telling elements and think about how to engage their audience.

Students are also responsible for designing the display on the second floor. Mr. Johnson shares important art aspects to consider given this special task!
