MSS PROS traveled all the way to Fairfax, VA
This past weekend, the MSS PROS traveled all the way to Fairfax, VA to perform at the OAKE
(National Kodály Organization) Eastern Division Fall Tune Up Conference.
The students were invited to perform at Mrs. Mauldin’s presentation,
“From My Tokyo Childhood To American Music Classroom”.

We gathered in the music room on Friday (the day we didn’t have school!),
rehearsed for almost 2 hours and then left on the bus to George Mason University, Fairfax, VA
where the conference was being held.

We fought the traffic around Washington DC, and arrived safely at George Mason University where
our first session was to attend and learn folk dancing with the music educators that gathered from all
over!

After the dancing session, we went to the University Student Center for dinner. Some had
Steak and Shake, some had Chipotle, Panera, pizza… we ate among the college students!

We then went to the hotel we were staying at. We had a blast at the swimming pool.
Next morning was the big day! After breakfast we went back to the George Mason University,
set up, warmed up and… then it was time for our presentation!

The presentation was a success. The teachers that attended the session had joined us in songs,
games and dances. They enjoyed listening to the PROS teach the games and songs, as well as performed pieces for them.

We also got to listen to Fairfax Youth Chorale perform a concert.
After the presentation it was time to play! We went to Washington DC and
walked around the monuments. We were very intrigued with the Vietnam Memorial
and had many questions. We learned about why the monument was built the way it is,
the way the names are etched onto the wall, as well as what all the symbols by the names mean.

The way back was long. We broke the trip up by stopping at an all-you-can-eat buffet!
There was plenty for all of us to eat, and we were impressed by the dessert section.
Cotton candy? Chocolate fountain? Yes please!
Our jobs were finally over after we came back to school and unloaded all of our equipment off the bus
and brought back to the music room.

It was a weekend full of activities and learnings.
